Daisy Chain Reaction

Daisy Chain Reaction is our 2nd release, with Rick and Rose and new guitarist Jeff (who now plays bass in the band Hum) and new drummer Bob Rising (who afterwards played in the bands Seam and Hardvark.) This record was originally released on Twin/Tone Records (Soul Asylum and The Replacements' old label), but after we signed to Sire in 1991, we had Sire buy it off of Twin/Tone because Twin/Tone was having distribution problems at the time. DCR was recorded by Steve Albini at Chicago Recording Company, but the "hit song" If You See Kay is actually from the 8-track demos that we did in Steve's basement. Many people believe that "If You See Kay" is a cover; although I hear that there are other songs with the same name, be assured, this is our own song.

MTV played our video for If You See Kay a good number of times on 120Minutes. A funny trivia fact: we were originally going to make the video for the song Chain Reaction but Twin/Tone sent a tape of the wrong song to Bill Ward, the video director. Then Bill Ward suggested that we do a video for If You See Kay, since it was a shorter song, and he liked it better, and we agreed. We probably wouldn't be where we are right now if this hadn't happened.

Just Like You

This EP is part of the "Junior Citizen" recordings, but was released in Fall 1994 solely because all of "Junior Citizen" wasn't ready yet, and we wanted to go on tour in the fall. So we got together 5 songs that we thought would fit well on an EP, and put "Just Like You" as the main track on it because it was the song that most people asked about after each set, and it was an older song. We figured this would make a fine EP, and people would get their money's worth. None of the songs on this EP are on Junior Citizen; it is all new material. We tried very hard to make sure this EP wasn't just an outtakes EP; we wanted it to be standalone. Unfortunatly, many stores sold this EP for $12 when it came out, thus ripping us and our fans off, terribly, and a lot of people don't realize that these songs can't be found anywhere else, or they assume the songs are outtakes.

Junior Citizen

Junior Citizen and the Just Like You EP were recorded in April 1994 at Smart Studios, in Madison WI. The recordings are our first co-production effort; Brian Anderson who owns part of Smart oversaw the whole operation, and Bryce Goggin who mixed Pavement's 3rd album mixed it in the end. As in each of our records, we tried to get a completely different sound, and completely different songs; we do not like to have "1 sound" on an album. To us, it means falling into a rut. This record is probably the first that we are actually happy with, soundwise and songwise. A video has been made for "Junior Citizen" and "He's My Star." Keyboards were employed on "Drug I Need" and "Junior Citizen" - as well as a drum machine on the latter. Drumming on this record is Drummer #6, Howie Kantoff, and the rest of the PCs stay the same; Rick, Rose and Jim.

The idea for the cover art for this and the EP comes from a tour where we stopped at all the fireworks outlets on the way to shows; we wanted the cover art to look like a Chinese or Japanese fireworks package, and we had started watching a bit of anime. All the cover art was done by members of the band, and there is an accompanying "Interactive Press Kit" which can be downloaded elsewhere in this site, also designed and programmed by the band members.

RTFM

Bryce Goggin, who mixed Junior Citizen, came in to help produce this album as well as mix it. It was recorded in Champaign, Illinois, at Pogo Studio, a great analog studio with tons of awesome amps and guitars. We believe this is the best-sounding record we've made yet.

We are indie rock again, and this record was self-produced and mixed in our basement, the first ever fully self-produced Poster Children record. The Enhanced CD part of this record contains screensavers, 3 live videos of us playing, and a game that simulates touring. This record sounds more live and more raw than our previous albums, and harkens back to our Daisy Chain Reaction days!
