Can we please not re-hash the past decade of my eduation?

This question was asked and answered by many people over the century, and I think the question (and the answers) got really boring around the mid 70s. The best answer, and the last answer needed, was Duchamp's submission of the urinal. If you call it art, it's art. If you can convince somebody else it's art, then it's an exhibition. The question is, what is GOOD art? The thing is that in the 90s, conceptual art isn't pushing any boundaries because the boundaries are gone. I like what DJ says about wanting to play music that you would like yourself. I think the same thing applies to art. In grad school there was a guy in the textiles program who licked a toilet for an hour for his thesis exhibition. I mean, does this guy really enjoy licking toilets? Does he wake up in the morning wanting to lick a toilet? I wake up in the morning wanting to make my art, I stay up late making it. When I'm done, I really enjoy looking at it (most of the time). I just see too many artists out there licking toilets, thinking they're some big innovation in the art world, wanting to be an art star, but there's no passion in what they do. And there's usually not much talent or craft in it either. So in the absence of craft and passion, they make their art about some concept or issue and put up a wordy postmodern statement on the wall so people will discuss it. I mean if my audience needs a set of instructions or a half hour to discuss my work, then I've failed. I would much rather do my work and never recieve recognition, and be happy doing what I like, than lick a toilet and become worldly renowned.
